BB3E: 3D2N Kiulu Farmstay

A unique and completely off the tourist radar experience, Kiulu Farmstay is situated at Kiulu River, worthwhile for any travelers interested in becoming immersed in the local life of the Sabahans. This beautiful farmstay is a community based ecotourism project that acts as a catalyst for community development and capacity building. Tucked away in a beautiful valley with a selection of activities offered, this is a perfect holiday tailored for everyone.

Day 1

Pick up from hotel and drive approximately 45 minutes to countryside with a short stop at Tamparuli Suspension Bridge and the nearby local market, passing the scenic view of the Kiulu Valley. Enjoy traditional lunch and in the afternoon, proceed for leisure village walk which would offer you stunning landscapes of the scenic valley as you pass through local school, lush paddy fields, hanging bridge before returning back. After dinner, have a good chat with the local people about the village history and folktales before retiring to bed. Overnight at the Fig Tree.

If you're keen for more adventure and cultural experience, there are many optional activities for you to try such as quad biking, cycling, water tubing and cultural activities. So be sure to ask your host!

Day 2

After breakfast, take a refreshing walk to visit local farm and garden. Try your hand and test your skills at rice planting and net fishing. Pick your own local produce to get a taste of sunshine, country air and fresh summer fruit and vegetables in season. This hands-on experience of picking your own lunch will give a true farm to table food experience. Thereafter, head back to experience natural kitchen adventure – a unique learning experience that offers you the opportunity to interact and be taught directly by a local resident cooks while they prepare you a locally grown lunch.

After lunch, take a sweet rest before the demonstration of cultural activities such rice sieving, blow pipe, handcrafts making, playing the musical instruments and traditional games begin. Next, take a short walk to the nearby river to take a dip or swim – a perfect way to beat the heat spells. After dinner, stay overnight at Fig Tree.

Enjoy breakfast before departing back to Kota Kinabalu.
